Arts, Culture, Georgetown!
Once upon a time, in the charming coastal city of Georgetown, S.C.—where southern hospitality waltzes hand in hand with the breezy maritime air—an incredible cultural revolution began! Led by the Georgetown Arts & Cultural Commission (GACC), this effort includes planning activities and establishing goals and outcomes for arts programming and creative place-making in our historic city. The third oldest city in South Carolina, following Charleston and Beaufort, Georgetown was founded in 1729.
In October 2022, the Georgetown City Council created the GACC to promote and identify the specific artistic and cultural needs of the city and aligning them with the community's aspirations. Now the city is the 11th South Carolina Cultural District, the first on in the Grand Strand region that stretches from Little River on the North Carolina border and Myrtle Beach down to Georgetown's Winyah Bay.
Our city offers an abundant and diverse range of cultural assets in an oak tree-lined, strollable setting:
Multiple art galleries and performance venues;
Five museums, including the Kaminsky House, Maritime Museum, Rice Museum, and Gullah Museum.
restaurants catering to a wide range of tastes showcasing the culinary arts;
public art displays, including murals;
public events that offer arts and cultural components, highlighted by annual events the Art and Wine Walk, Juneteenth Parade, Wooden Boat Show;
and a unique and diverse blending of history and the arts.
